Raspberry Pi Infrastructure
Documentation of my Raspberry Pi cluster infrastructure. This is a work in progress and will be updated as I add more services and features to the cluster.
Bird’s Eye View

Section titled “Geographical Distribution”My Raspberry Pi cluster is distributed across two locations in India: Patna, Bihar and Dwarka, Delhi. This allows me to have a more resilient infrastructure and also helps with latency for services that I access from different locations.

Network Topology
Section titled “Network Topology”In Patna, we have redundant internet connections from two different ISPs based on two different technologies (fiber and 5G). BSNL provides fiber internet with a speed of 100 Mbps, while Airtel provides 5G internet with a speed of 40 Mbps. Fiber cuts are common in India due to rapid infrastructure development and maintenance, so having a backup connection is essential to ensure uninterrupted access to the services running on the cluster. 5G wireless ensures that even if the fiber connection goes down, I can still access my services with minimal disruption, while fiber provides high upload speeds and low latency for tasks that require it.
Both internet connections are unified using TP-Link ER605 router which provides failover and load balancing capabilities. Fiber is fed to an XPON ONU and ER605 is configued not only for PPPoE connection, but also a secondary connection on the same to communicate with the ONU, so as to be able to monitor fiber connction stregth and change configurations if required. Since we have two internet connections, it is possible to remotely configure one and not loose access. The Raspberry Pis are connected to this router via Ethernet, ensuring a stable and fast connection for all the services running on the cluster. A pair of Linksys E5600 work as Wifi access points provide Wifi connevtivity to all the smart devices in the house. This WIfi also serves personal devices used by me and my parents.
In Delhi, we have a single fiber connection provided by Excitel, currently capped at 200 Mbps. The fiber feeds into Excitel provided wifi + ONU combo which is only used as bride. The router here is TP Link C6 which also provides Wifi to smart devices. A 60m long LAN cable connects to an 8 port and a 5 port unmanaged switch, which then connect to the Raspberry Pi and other devices in the house. The
